Attarat Operation and Maintenance Company (OMCO) and the Civil Defense Directorate (CDD) have signed Firefighting and Ambulance Service Agreement (“Agreement”) to provide firefighting and ambulance services to Attarat Oil Shale Power Project (“Project”).

The Agreement was signed by Mr. Jason Pok, CEO of OMCO and Major General Mustafa Bazayah, Head of the Directorate of Civil Defense on 17 October 2019 at the Civil Defense Department.

The total value of the Agreement is about USD 1 million for the provision of services for three years. CDD will provide two fire trucks, one ambulance and full time response team on site. This will provide job opportunities for 40 Jordan’s CDD members to serve in this strategic Project.

Mr Jason Pok, Chief Executive Officer of OMCO highlighted the importance of the collaboration with CDD as it has the expertise and experienced personnel to provide firefighting and ambulance service to the Project. He added that the safety and health of our employees is the priority for the company. As the Project is located in a remote area, the presence of CDD will provide prompt emergency response and comfort to our employees in the event of fire and emergency rescue operation.

Attarat Power Company (APCO) is constructing the first oil shale fired power station and open-cast mine
in Jordan. The project site is in Attarat um Ghudran, approximately 110 km south-east of Amman. The
construction of the 470 MW (net) oil shale fired mine mouth power plant and mine opening works are in
progress with the first unit scheduled to commence operations in mid-2020. The Project is the largest
inward foreign investment into Jordan and creates more than 1,000 long term job opportunities for
Jordanians. It is also the first project that utilize indigenous oil shale resource and is very important
strategically in terms of energy security as it will contribute towards reducing Jordan’s reliance on
imported gas. Attarat Operation and Maintenance Company (OMCO) is the sister company of APCO and is responsible to carry out operation and maintenance work of the power plant.
