Attarat Power Company (APCO) is the developer, owner and operator of Jordan’s first power plant using locally mined oil shale. Located 110km southeast of Amman, APCO operates two 235MW (net) units that came online in 2022 and 2023.

Attarat Oil Shale Fired Power Plant The Attarat Oil Shale Fired Power Plant is Jordan’s first and only oil shale-fired power station and the largest private investment project in the Kingdom (valued at $2.1 billion). It consists of two 235MW net generating units utilizing Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) technology to produce clean, reliable baseload electricity.

Operated by the Attarat Mining Company (AMCO), this represents Jordan’s first commercial-scale open pit mine. The mine supplies 10 to 11 million tonnes of raw oil shale annually to fuel the adjacent power station, making it the largest open pit mining operation in Jordan and the wider Levant.
