Attarat Power Company (APCO)
APCO is the owner of the first oil-shale fired mine-mouth IPP Power Plant in Jordan.
The Attarat Plant is a 2 x 235 MW (Net) Oil Shale Fired Mine Mouth IPP Project located in Attarat Um Ghudran, 110 km southeast of Amman. The Plant site is accessible via the main desert highway between Amman and Aqaba.
At a total investment cost of USD2.1 billion, the Plant is the largest private inward investment into Jordan to-date. The Plant is the first to commercially utilize Jordan’s abundant oil shale resource to produce electricity, thereby reducing Jordan’s reliance on imported oil and gas.
When completed at the mid of 2023, the Plant meets up to 15% of Jordan’s annual electricity demand and will contribute towards its long-term energy security and independence.
The 2x235MW Oil Shale Power Plant, Attarat Um Al Ghudran, Jordan kicks-start Jordan’s nascent oil shale industry.
